Italy opens – good news/big risk
11 May 2021
The Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has announced that “Italy is ready to welcome back the world” when they welcome back foreign travellers from mid-May. Good news or premature and risky?
Travelers will need to provide proof of vaccination (both doses); or immunity against the virus via recovery from COVID-19; or a recent negative COVID-19 test result.
The announcement comes as May has so far averaged more than 10,000 new cases daily; no region has been declared white (unrestricted); only 12% of Italians have been fully vaccinated so there is no herd immunity; and about 400,000 are currently COVID positive.
